The Missing LINK: 6 Areas That Need More of It
Happy Thursday everyone! So I have late breaking, dire information that must reach your full attention—it’s actually not all THAT serious but I am switching my posting day to Mondays. This means starting next week, your daily prescription of 2Cents will be filled and ready every Monday. THAT IS A HUGE DEAL, actually. Now that my blog has created some traction, I’ve had to adjust my posting days to ensure I deliver my undivided attention to this baby of mine. I always want to give thanks and appreciation when its due so let’s start with you. Thank you guys so much for the amazing attention you’re pouring into this thing—1,970 total website views and 960 of them are from my blog content! The most popular blog on my site is “Are You Confusing The Universe” by a landslide and I receive so many comments daily on how this was a huge reality check for my readers and clients. I am overjoyed; it was a bit of a tough one to swallow for me too but we’re in the business of growth—and growth isn’t pretty. Didn’t get a chance to read it? Enjoy!
Keep it coming guys, we’re moving on up. When I say moving on up, I mean FAST. I just had a meeting last week with Kirill and Carla, the amazing owners of the Pamplona 89 work space and creation playground. They adore the blog and opened up their space for my Craft 2 Career 101 Series that now has a tentative start date for mid-April! 😱 This series will provide answers to the question “How do I get started?” and will help provide a guideline and steps for the new and plateaued creatives on how to take your art to the next level. Details coming very soon on the new and improved @8020creative Instagram page. I’m so excited guys and I couldn’t have done it without your help. 🙏🏽
Today’s post is one from Chris Harder and the “For the Love of Money” Podcast, brilliant stuff. Let's dig up the missing link and find the six areas that need it's attention.
You can also comment some topics you'd like to see covered and I'll make sure to add it in. The gift of spreading knowledge and awareness is greatly appreciated.
Okay, get your pencils and notepads ready, time to clock in.

My Take Away..
- The missing link to your success – GIVING
- How to give more to get more
- Effort, Time, Money, Resourcefulness, Planning and Love (you can always give more)
How important is giving to you?
Are you giving at all?
If so, to what areas of your life?
Could you give more?
Wherever you are or wherever you wish to be, giving more will ultimately get you there. Let’s discuss where you need to give more
Perhaps you think you already work hard – I have no doubt that you do. However, what if some of your current efforts are misguided? What if you focused more on income-producing activities and put more work in your business?
Activity Time! 🗒
Grab a sheet of paper and list out all the activities you’ve done towards your business in the last 14 days and be very objective.
You may feel and think like you’re working hard—but is it smarter work?
Let's agree that you could be giving more effort in the right areas, these income producing activities and creating more room for your craft to grow.
This encompasses all areas. I get it, we all slave and put time in— a lot more than we have.
What if more time meant applying it towards your business partner, potential collaborators or backers?
How about stepping outside your business as a whole to analyze and make adjustments instead of inside, caught up in the daily grind?
What about more time spent on studying and improving your craft instead of sitting on your trusted knowledge that got you to where you are?
Make sure the time we put in is productive, otherwise it’s just wasted.
I often hear that people are stuck on a plateau. Often many of you are so white-knuckled in your approach to spending money. Pinching pennies isn’t a bad thing but it may be time to give more money to your business and your craft. Add that new team member or assistant, take out more ads, invest in quality equipment and tools, invest in quality people etc. Let me touch on this one specifically— Hire QUALITY professionals to create your assets.
Why would I pay and rely on a videographer and photographer with assets crucial to the success my creative dreams when they don’t even work in that field full-time, often bartending or serving to make ends meet? That was just an example and before you cuss me out, I know that we’re all trying to make it out here but let’s get real—
Think of a famous artist or successful creative that you admire who’s doing what you dream of.
Now ask yourself,
“Would they hire and trust __________________ for their ___________________ knowing their entire career depended on it?”
This should be your mantra when deciding who to hire to create for you. Don’t pay the paper boy to perform heart surgery and don't hire a girl scout to build a house.
Being cheap is smart, but not if it’s stopping your business in its tracks. So get creative and put money where it’s needed.
No money? No problem. We just talked about getting more creative. Roll up those sleeves— Find an intern who will work for free or next to nothing, trade favors or services. Bottom line, figure it out. Resourcefulness fixes everything so remember action, action, action. Do what you can with the resources that you currently have. Do not be idle and expect to live life on a new level. Action makes all the difference.
What can I provide for ____________________ other than $$?
If you're really thinking ahead, you'd invest money in skills that you can multi-purpose as trade services when the time comes.....and it will come. What things are your peers constantly need of?
- Social Media
- Website Coding/Design
- Financial Underwriting
- Notary Services
How about some unconventional ideas...
- Supply discounts or deals from a membership you own
- Venue space info from owners that you have a good rapport with
Remember, there's always a way. It's your job to unlock the HOW.
The technology, marketing and business worlds change rapidly. It’s in your best interest to keep up on your research and give more time to planning ahead as much as possible. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, however, efficiency is KEY.
Advantages of Proper Research and Planning
- Gives your craft or business a sense of direction
- Focuses attention on objectives and results
- Establishes a basis for teamwork
- Helps anticipate problems and cope with change.
- Provides guidelines for key decision making.
Take the time to evaluate what your successful peers are doing and implement what works into your craft. A skateboard runs pretty smooth but it’d move a lot faster and push a lot further with a V8 engine upgrade. Never overlook an opportunity to level up.
Give more love to yourself, your business, your co-workers or business partners. Give love outside of your business – without expectations.
Love can come in the form of
- Service to Others
Love always comes full circle, and you never know who will be able to help you down the road.
